Over 30 Years of Bagpipe Playing

Ed has been playing the bagpipes since the age of 11. As a child he loved to see bagpipers play when on family trips to Scotland and eventually he was encouraged to learn the instrument by his mother who hails from Peterhead, Aberdeenshire.  He has played in various pipe bands including the Seaforth Highlanders, Ashbourne and District Pipes and Drums, Nottingham Police, Manchester Phoenix and plans to join the Manchester Fire Service Pipe Band once Covid restrictions allow pipe bands to practice together again.  Ed has competed at major events such as the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow and won the All England Championships with Manchester Phoenix at Chatsworth Country Fair, Derbyshire.

Ed is the official Duke of Edinbugh Award bagpipe tutor at the Army Foundation College in Harrogate and has been teaching junior soldiers there since 2010.

Ed has performed at 1000's of Weddings, Funerals, Birthday Parties, Christenings, Retirement Do's, Military Events, Remembrance and Armistice Events, Hogmanay Parties, Burns Suppers, Charity Fundraisers and Corporate Events. He has a passion for travel and has been fortunate enough to perform at beer festivals and carnivals in Germany, weddings in Croatia and Slovenia and repeat bookings for  VIP parties in Ibiza.

Based in Sheffield Ed is well located for events in Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and the North West. Ed is happy to travel futher afield and  is always happy to consider international opportunities. 

Media and TV

  • In 2006 Ed performed at the IIFA (Bollywood) awards at Sheffield Arena in front of 12500 people. This was televised and aired worldwide on Starz TV. 

  • In 2009 Ed was asked to take part in a promo video for the  Rugby League's 'Magic Weekend '. This was filmed on the moors above Bradford and aired at the match in Edinburgh. The video can be viewed here.

  • In 2010 Ed performed for a wedding at the Langdale Chase Hotel which was featured on ITV's 'The Lake's. Ed was filmed playing for the ceremony and the reception.

  • In 2013 Ed performed at Johnny and Jude Latimer's wedding in Ingleton Cave, North Yorkshire. The wedding was filmed by ITV for the TV series 'The Dales' . Ed was filmed leading the bride and groom out of Ingleton Cave and leading the wedding party to the reception in the village. A clip of the footage can be viewed here.

  • In 2020 during the Coronavirus pandemic Ed travelled to London to appear in a promotional video Ladbible were making for Vodafone. This involved pretending to busk in Covent Garden whilst an actress attempted to sing along to Scotland The Brave. The video can be viewed here. 

  • Also in 2020 Ed worked with Tameside Council for a '12 Days of Christmas'  series of videos they were making which showcased local talent in the area. They needed a bagpiper  for the '11th Day' video.  Ed was the nearest bagpiper they could find so they filmed him playing in and around the village of Mossley. The video can be viewed here.
